Salem Grimm is a passionate advocate who works to improve the child welfare system and create better opportunities for youth transitioning out of care. Drawing from both her lived experience and professional expertise, Salem graduated from the University of Valley Forge in 2024 with a BA in Intercultural Studies. Their journey fuels her commitment to supporting young people and making systems more fair, supportive, and responsive to their needs.

Salem currently serves as Co-Chair of Advocates4Change, the Youth Action Board affiliated with the Housing Coalition of Western PA. In this role, she brings the perspective of a former foster youth to the homeless response system, helping shape programs and policies that better serve young people in need. For her leadership and advocacy, Salem received the 2024 SWAN Youth Advocate Award.

Salem believes strongly in centering the voices of those with lived experience, recognizing that youth are the experts on the systems that affect their lives. She regularly participates in speaking engagements and workshops, sharing insights on improving youth-serving systems, strengthening youth-adult partnerships, and empowering young people to use their voices.

Beyond her advocacy, Salem is committed to being a positive role model, inspiring other youth—especially those facing challenges she once experienced. Through her work, she shows that lived experience, dedication, and courage can create lasting change and help transform challenges into opportunities for growth and success.
