Mayda Berrios is a passionate social worker and youth advocate, dedicated to creating positive change in her community. She has accomplished an impressive array of achievements across education, work, and volunteerism. A proud graduate of Delaware State University, Mayda earned her Master of Social Work in May 2023 after graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work in May 2022.
In her full-time career, Mayda works as a Foster Parent Licensing Specialist, where she specializes in recruiting and licensing families to become foster parents, ensuring safe and supportive homes for children in need. She is also the founder of In Her Shoes, LLC, through which she travels across the United States delivering award-winning presentations that detail her personal journey in foster care and leadership, inspiring audiences nationwide.
Deeply committed to youth empowerment and mental health advocacy, Mayda serves as an intern with Youth MOVE National, a national network driven by and for youth. She also leads as President of the Delaware chapter, First State Youth MOVE, which is dedicated to empowering youth voice and mental health awareness across the state. Additionally, Mayda is the youngest appointed Commissioner on the Delaware Women’s Commission, where she works to advance issues impacting women and girls in her community.
Mayda's exceptional skills and dedication have earned her numerous honors and awards, including: Exceptional Volunteer Award from the Down Syndrome Association, Alumna of the Year for Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. – Maryland Area, Hornet Trailblazer Award by the Teen Warehouse and the Impact Award by the Delaware Mill Summit, amongst many other recognitions
