Maci Kean
She/Her
6 Years in Care
Maci's journey through foster care began after losing her parents at a young age. Placed in kinship care with unfamiliar relatives, Maci navigated a challenging environment, limited support, and barriers related to her deafness and identity. At 17, she was adopted just weeks before her 18th birthday. Despite so many obstacles, Maci has turned her experiences into advocacy.
Today, she holds two Master’s degrees from Florida International University and serves as Senior Project Specialist for the Ujima Collective Program at the National Adoption Association. She shares her story locally and nationally, advocates for intersectionality, and works to create equitable opportunities for youth in foster care. Her efforts include speaking at funder events, participating on boards, contributing to PSAs, and promoting systems-level change across the child welfare field.
Outside of advocacy, Maci loves traveling solo, backpacking through Europe, shooting film photography, and cooking. She is passionate about using her lived experience and education to inspire youth, drive systemic change, and elevate community voices.
