Hector Lopez
He/Him
4 Years in Care
Hector’s journey in foster care began at age nine. Early on, Hector faced a lot of challenges and the responsibility of caring for his five siblings while moving through multiple placements. These experiences shaped him but never defined him—he learned to advocate for himself and his siblings, even in the most difficult circumstances.
After his final placement with family, Hector transitioned into supervised independent living, graduated high school in 2024, and is preparing to start Austin Community College in the EMT and Firefighting Academy program. Alongside school, he pursues entrepreneurship through his clothing line and participates in his community through flag football and youth advocacy.
Hector has become a powerful voice for youth in foster care. He serves on regional and statewide youth leadership councils, speaks at the Texas State Capitol, trains peers and caseworkers on financial literacy and independence, and provides input on policy and youth services.
Hector’s future goals include becoming a firefighter, running his own business, public speaking, and working as a youth specialist for the State of Texas—continuing to turn his experiences into opportunities for impact and empowerment for generations to come.
