Ebony Goytia Hermosillo

She/Her

3 Years in Care

At the age of 5, Ebony’s journey started in foster care. Facing challenges, including periods of instability, Ebony learned to recognize the source of strength and community needed to grow. She witnessed firsthand the struggles of breaking generational cycles, and those experiences fueled her commitment to creating change.

Ebony is a first-generation college graduate who attended UC Merced as a Guardian Scholar. While at college, she threw herself into community engagement and leadership roles in organizations like UNICEF, the Student Alumni Association, and AmeriCorps. Since graduating, she has worked in various fields, including mental health and public health/social services. She’s passionate about advocating for foster youth and underserved communities, as seen through her roles with organizations such as Central Valley Health Network and Polinsky Children's Center.

Ebony’s next goal is to earn a Master’s in Nonprofit Organizational Leadership and Social Work, aiming to one day run a nonprofit supporting children and families. Her mission is to continue fighting for systemic change in foster care and mental health support, helping others (especially youth with foster care experience) find their voice and succeed.
