Hi! I’m Sally Littlefield. I’ve lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since I was three years old and now live on a cool island in the San Francisco Bay called Alameda, CA. I love language and am really into reading, writing, and public speaking. In my free time, I like to craft (especially knitting and cross-stitching), hang out with my friends and family, and take long walks around Alameda.

I wanted to join FosterClub because of my experience living with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type, which is a mix of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It turns out that young people in foster care and people with schizophrenia face a lot of the same stereotypes and challenges. I was really impressed by FosterClub’s commitment to improving mental and behavioral health for young people in foster care because this is super important to me. I’m always inspired by the strength, determination, and selflessness of the young advocates who power FosterClub’s work.

After earning a B.A. in American Studies from UC Berkeley, Sally used her research on gender roles in media to start a career in nonprofit communications and fundraising at organizations focused on domestic violence and women’s issues. When she developed schizoaffective disorder, she shifted to working in mental health for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, San Francisco; the Mental Health Association of San Francisco; and Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance. As FosterClub’s Communications & Fundraising Manager, she uses her experience explaining complex social justice issues in empowering ways for outlets like Psychology Today, Slate, MSN, the Huffington Post, the Associated Press, and A+E to amplify the voices and share the stories of young people from foster care.
