Purpose: The Youth Advisory Board is here to support both the organization and other young people by sharing their own lived experiences. Members act as advocates, leaders, and trusted voices on mental health. They help guide decisions and make sure youth perspectives are heard by the Youth MOVE Virginia team.
Mission: Our mission of the Youth Advisory Board is to impact youth and young adults of Virginia with lived experience through advocacy, peer support, and provide a place for the youth voice to be heard.
Goals for Board Members: This board is not only providing and amplifying the youth voice but also providing leadership growth to its members.
Who can use this resource (eligibility)?
Young people that serve on the Youth Advisory Board are youth and young adults ages 13-30 who use their lived experience to celebrate one another while advocating for a variety of systems-level change to improve the experience of young people in Virginia.
Recruitment: Board members’ terms are for one year at a time and we are consistently looking for new young people to serve on our board as volunteers. We are looking for young people who:
- Have a lived experience in any of the following systems: mental health, juvenile justice, special education, substance use, foster care, or child welfare
- Are passionate about amplifying the youth voice and experience
- Want to be active participants of the board and contribute to the mission and vision of Youth MOVE Virginia
