Texas - THRU Project

About this resource

THRU Project helps young people in and from foster care successfully navigate adulthood by offering real-world support and strong relationships. Their core programs include:

  • Mentorship: Youth are matched with a dedicated adult mentor for encouragement, guidance, and stability.

  • Supervised Independent Living (SIL): A voluntary program for ages 18–21 that offers housing and caseworker support to build independence.

  • College & Vocational Housing: Rent-free housing for up to 4 years for those pursuing higher education or vocational training—so housing isn’t a barrier to success.

  • BreakTHRU: Mental wellness support through counseling, occupational therapy, and peer groups.

  • THRU Talks: Life skills workshops on finances, fitness, nutrition, and more—open to youth and mentors.

  • Pass to Success: Free bus passes through VIA to help youth stay mobile for school, work, and life.

  • Fostering Connections: Cell phones provided to keep youth connected to mentors, resources, and their community.
