South Dakota Youth Action Board (YAB)

The South Dakota Youth Action Board (YAB) is a group made up of young people who have lived experience in foster care or homelessness. YAB members work together to speak up for youth in the system, improve programs, and make sure youth voice is heard in decisions that affect them.

What They Do:

  • Collaborate with organizations like the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the South Dakota Housing Development Authority, and service providers.

  • Develop and implement strategies to address youth homelessness.

  • Provide a platform for young people to voice their experiences and contribute to policy discussions.

Who can use this resource (eligibility)?

  • Eligibility: Open to youth aged 15–24.

  • Meetings: The YAB meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 4 PM for approximately 1.5 hours.

  • Location: Meetings are held at The Circle, Youth and Young Adult Drop-In and Transitional Housing Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
