Ohio Foster Youth Rights Handbook
About this resource
Your rights in foster care can be a little different depending on what state you live in. The Foster Children’s Bill of Rights helps explain what you're allowed to have—like safety, health care, education, being part of decisions, and getting information about your life.
Some of the words in the Bill of Rights can be confusing. If you need help understanding what it all means, you can email: [email protected]
A team of young adults who experienced foster care gathered to make a foster youth rights handbook. That group is known as the Ohio Youth Advisory Board (OYAB), and this is the newest edition of that handbook.
It helps inform young adults in the foster care system about their rights and responsibilities, and teaches them how to talk to someone if those rights are violated. Most importantly, this handbook lets you know that there are people who care about you and are fighting for your success.
