Office of the Ombudsman - Connecticut

About this resource

Most states have a Child Welfare Complaint Office, Ombudsman, or Child Advocate. These are people who help when your rights might not be respected in foster care.

"Ombudsman" means "helper" or "representative"—but each state may call it something different!

If you’ve already talked to your caseworker, their supervisor, or a judge, and things still aren’t better, this is your next step.

They will:

  • Listen to your concerns

  • Help solve problems between you and others

  • Speak up for you

  • Set up meetings if needed

  • Explain rules and policies

  • Work quickly to fix issues

To share your complaint or concern, you can:

  • Call the Ombudsman office

  • Email or write a letter (don’t forget to include your contact info!)
