North Dakota Foster Youth Bill Of Rights

About this resource

If you're in foster care in North Dakota, you have rights to help keep you safe, respected, and heard. Some of your key rights include:

  • Being treated with respect
  • Knowing why you’re in care and being part of your plan
  • Living in a safe and clean home
  • Keeping your personal stuff and taking it with you if you move
  • Going to school and joining activities
  • Getting health care when you need it
  • Practicing your religion and culture
  • Seeing and talking to your siblings and family (unless a judge says otherwise)
  • Having a say in your future and decisions that affect you

Ask your caseworker to go over these rights with you every year in a way that makes sense to you.
