Youth Advisory Boards (YABs)

Youth Advisory Boards are groups made up of current and former foster youth (ages 18–22) that help build leadership and advocacy skills.

  • There are 15 YABs across all 21 counties in New Jersey.

  • They give ideas on how to make the Department of Children and Families (DCF) better.

  • Twice a year, they share concerns and solutions with top DCF leaders.

  • Members practice skills like public speaking, planning, and community service.

  • Meetings happen every two weeks, with food and rides provided.

  • Executive members get paid!

  • All 15 boards meet together four times a year.
