About this resource
Youth Advisory Boards (YABs)
Youth Advisory Boards are groups made up of current and former foster youth (ages 18–22) that help build leadership and advocacy skills.
-
There are 15 YABs across all 21 counties in New Jersey.
-
They give ideas on how to make the Department of Children and Families (DCF) better.
-
Twice a year, they share concerns and solutions with top DCF leaders.
-
Members practice skills like public speaking, planning, and community service.
-
Meetings happen every two weeks, with food and rides provided.
-
Executive members get paid!
-
All 15 boards meet together four times a year.
