New Jersey Independent Living Services

About this resource

Department of Children and Families – Office of Adolescent Services

Each year in New Jersey, young adults turn 18 and leave foster care. This can be hard if they don’t have support from family or friends. Some may end up without a place to live, a job, or health care.

To help, New Jersey’s child welfare agency (called the Division of Child Protection and Permanency) offers support for young adults who are "aging out" of foster care.

Services depend on where you live. To find help in your area, go to the “Life Skills: Aftercare” page and click on your region on the right side to get local contact info.

Who can use this resource (eligibility)?

  • Young adults in foster care age 16-21 may be eligible.
