Nebraska Youth in Care Bill of Rights

About this resource

If you're in foster care or involved in the juvenile justice system in Nebraska, you have rights and it's important to know them. The Youth in Care Bill of Rights is all about making sure you are safe, supported, and heard. You have the right to:

  • Be treated with respect and dignity

  • Live in a safe, healthy environment

  • Stay in touch with your family and friends (if it’s safe)

  • Get medical care, go to school, and have help with college or job plans

  • Have a say in decisions about your life

  • Ask for help if something doesn’t feel right

You can talk to your caseworker, judge, foster parent, or an advocate if you feel your rights aren’t being respected. You’re not alone and you deserve to be heard and supported.
