Michigan Independent Living Program
About this resource
Michigan's Independent Living (IL) Programs support current and former foster youth as they work toward adulthood. These programs offer help with education, employment, housing, budgeting, and building a support network—all designed to support your goals after care.
The FYIT website provides information on these services, along with links to helpful resources on topics like health, legal rights, financial aid, and preparing for life on your own. It’s a central place to find answers and connect with support in Michigan.
Who can use this resource (eligibility)?
- A youth who has been placed in a MDHHS supervised eligible foster care or juvenile justice placement after their 14th birthday, and meets all other criteria, is eligible for YIT until their 21st birthday.
