Why You Might Contact Maine DHHS (Department of Health and Human Services)
If you're in foster care or used to be, there are lots of reasons you might need to reach out to DHHS. Here are some examples:
-
Have a concern or complaint? You can speak up if something doesn’t feel right about your placement, caseworker, or services.
-
Questions about your case? Ask about your benefits, Chafee funds, the Independent Living Program (ILP), or other support.
-
Think your rights were violated? You can file a grievance if you feel your rights as a foster youth weren’t respected.
-
Need your records? You can ask for copies of your case file or other documents.
-
Looking for help? DHHS can tell you about programs for housing, school, jobs, or mental health as you prepare for life after foster care.
-
Want to speak up? There are ways to get involved and help make the foster care system better for everyone.
-
Not sure who to ask? DHHS can help connect you to the right office or person.
