About this resource

Kentucky’s Independent Living Program (ILP) helps youth in foster care—and those who have recently left care—build the skills they need for life on their own. Through the Chafee Program, youth as young as 12 can start learning important life skills.

Ages 12–15 can begin soft skills training through foster homes or care agencies

Ages 16–18 can access formal life skills classes

Ages 18–21 (still in care or who aged out) may qualify for:

  • Life skills classes
  • Mentorship and youth leadership opportunities
  • Tuition waivers and ETV funds
  • Room and board support (for youth who aged out)

To sign up, contact your Regional Independent Living Coordinator.
