Kansas: Medicaid

About this resource

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires states to provide young adults under 26 with free health insurance (Cover til 26) if they were in foster care at age 18 or older. This ensures that former foster youth can access the health care services they need. 

KanCare under the Medicaid plan - Our largest program. It covers people with limited income, which may include pregnant women, children up to age 19, adult caretaker of children, persons aged out of foster care, persons with disabilities and senior citizens to list a few. We provide Medicaid through many special programs.

Who can use this resource (eligibility)?

You may be eligible for HealthCareFFY if under the age of 26 and were in foster care on or after your 18th birthday. 

For assistance in completing the KanCare benefits application, contact the DCF Independent Living Coordinator in your region. Ask for the IL Coordinator when you call.
