Idaho Youth in Care Bill of Rights

If you’re a youth in foster care in Idaho, you have important rights to help you feel safe, supported, and heard. These rights were created by the Idaho Foster Youth Advisory Board—a group of former and current foster youth who want to empower you.

You have the right to:

  • Lifelong connections with family

  • Be placed with your siblings when possible, or have a plan to stay in contact if not

  • Keep your personal belongings

  • Age-appropriate privacy

  • Freedom from discrimination

  • Be involved in your case plan

  • Make informed choices about your healthcare

  • Have a qualified advocate to support you

  • Participate in education and extracurricular activities

  • Get help for a smooth transition out of foster care, including getting important documents you need
