A Home Within (Free Therapy for Current/Former Foster Youth)

About this resource

A Home Within is a national nonprofit that connects current and former foster youth with licensed therapists who provide free, long-term therapy.

Each young person is matched with a volunteer therapist in private practice who offers one-on-one therapy, usually once a week, for as long as it’s helpful. Sessions may be in-person or virtual depending on availability in your area.

A Home Within does not provide crisis services or emergency support, but they specialize in long-term therapy relationships for foster youth.

Who can use this resource (eligibility)?

You may be eligible if:

  • You are currently in foster care or

  • You were previously in foster care (even if it was only for one day)

There is no age limit for people who have experienced foster care.

Availability depends on therapist openings in your state, but you can submit a request and they will follow up with you about next steps.
