North Carolina: Foster Youth Bill of Rights

About this resource

North Carolina’s Foster Care Children’s Bill of Rights outlines the basic rights and protections for young people in foster care. These include the right to be placed in a safe home, stay connected with siblings, participate in school and community activities, and have access to important documents like your birth certificate and health records by age 16.

It also covers your right to be involved in planning for your future—like transition plans and meetings about your care—and to stay in touch with social workers and family when appropriate.

Although the state doesn't currently offer a youth-friendly version, you can read the full info here.
