Florida Independent Living Programs

About this resource

If you’re between 18 and 26 and have been in foster care in Florida,  Independent Living Services and the Office of Continuing Care have resources to help you transition into adulthood with real support. Whether you're preparing to live on your own, go back to school, or just need help getting on your feet, you may qualify for programs like Aftercare, Extended Foster Care (EFC), or Post-Secondary Education Support Services (PESS).

You can get help with:

  • Life skills & financial literacy
  • Job & career training
  • Mental health or substance abuse counseling
  • Mentoring or tutoring
  • Parenting classes
  • Temporary or emergency financial help (if eligible)
  • One-on-one help connecting to services near you

Who can use this resource (eligibility)?

  • The Department provides independent living services to assist youth, ages 14 and older, who are in foster care, and youth who have exited care after their 18th birthday.
  • If you are between the ages of 18 and 26 and you have or will age out of foster care in Florida (including extended foster care) reach out to determine eligibility.
