About this resource
The purpose of the Promise Scholars Program is to provide ambitious college-bound students from foster care situations access to the promise of a better future through post-secondary education. The Promise Scholars Program is committed to providing the avenue and support services needed for former foster youth to succeed in college and build a brighter future for themselves through higher education.
Who can use this resource (eligibility)?
Both current and former foster youth are eligible for Promise Scholars. Also accepted under the Foster Youth definition is:
- Guardianship Care/Kinship Care
- Ward of the Court
- Emancipated Minor
- Unaccompanied Homeless Youth
- Independent by Appeal (must be updated yearly)
- Special cases will be reviewed by the Promise Scholars Program Coordinator
Scholars Applicants should meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Former foster youth between the ages of 17-23
- Must be a California resident
- Qualify for admission to Stan State
- Complete the Promise Scholars Application (find on website)
- Complete the FASFA
- Provide Foster Youth or Unaccompanied Homeless Youth documentation
- Meet with Promise Scholar Program Lead
