Years later, after building a successful music career, Jimmy chose to use his platform to give back to the community that shaped him. In 2010, he embarked on an extraordinary journey. He walked more than 1,700 miles across the middle of America to raise awareness about youth aging out of foster care. Step by step and mile by mile, he brought national attention to the challenges these young people face, including homelessness, lack of support, limited educational opportunities, and the urgent need for permanent connections.

His walk was more than symbolic. It was personal.

Another way Jimmy leveraged his voice for change was to lobby for a bill in Tennessee that continued extended foster care to age 21. He wrote a personal letter to a representative that initially voted against the bill. Ultimately that representative changed their vote!

Jimmy does not gloss over the pain of his early years. He speaks openly about the hardship, the insecurity, and the emotional toll. He also speaks about possibility and how resilience, combined with meaningful support, can transform a life.
